The Wharf DC Engagement Session - Hannah & Richard

Searching for a wedding photographer is not an easy task. There are so many good photographers out there that you just keep scrolling and filling out inquiries, waiting for a sign or something that says, “this is the one”.

Sometimes there is a silence after the initial contact, couples get overwhelmed by all the new information they are receiving or they just get busy with wedding planning on top of their normal busy lives. This is what happened with Hannah & Richard.

I don’t always reach out after the first contact, but for some reason I did with them and man, was it worth it…

They were moving at the time and I remember during our zoom call that they looked tired and overwhelmed, so I told them to reach out when they were settled. Finally, less than a month before their wedding day, we shot their engagement session and it is one of the most fun and energetic sessions I have shot so far!

From the beginning their personalities were just shining through, going from romantic moments to goofy ones. Unti, final decision of the session was dancing in the water fountain.

On my way back to the hotel, my heart was full and I couldn’t stop smiling. I was so excited and I couldn’t wait to see the images on my computer!

WHEN DID YOU KNOW SHE WAS THE ONE?
HANNAH: Richard sent me a fox shaped mug as a surprise gift. It was supposed to be a replica of a mug of a character from our favorite tv show together. When I texted him to say thank you he said “I’m glad you like it. It will be a nice family heirloom to pass down from generation to generation.” He was saying stuff like that very early on, because he knew right away. So did I, but I was scared to admit it.

RICHARD: Early on in our relationship, she helped me through a very mentally and physically challenging time…and without hesitation at that…she didn’t owe me anything, but there she was…it was easy to see her as family. I already knew she was the one before then, but that made me love her so much more…loyalty, maturity, EMPATHY.

Here are some of my favorite images from their engagement session at The Wharf in DC.
